The literary work of a talented writer

Although perfectly bilingual, Daniel-Lesueur wrote in French and reserved her interventions in English to some translations of articles. But her novels, at least for two-thirds of them, were the subject of the author’s own lifetime, or between the Two Wars, of translations into some fifteen foreign languages. You will find after each novel if it has been translated and in what language.

Collections are available directly on the website of the association of Friends Daniel-Lesueur in pdf and epub version.

As soon as Daniel-Lesueur was known and recognized, a large part of her novels appeared, before going out in bookstores, serialized in newspapers or magazines; we tried to list them. It should be noted that over time, newspapers were becoming more and more popular (more than a million copies for Le Journal, Le Petit Journal, Le Matin, etc.).

Two-thirds of the novels, originally written in French, were the subject in the author's own lifetime, or between the Two Wars, of translations into some fifteen foreign languages. You will find after each novel if it has been translated and in what language.

Journalism (literary critics, chronicles, war reports, stories, etc.)

The numerous articles of Daniel-Lesueur published in newspapers or magazines would require a special study. It should be noted that there are a hundred literary critics, as many chronicles, but also many articles, interviews or answers to surveys ... Let us mention the following supports:
  • L’Indépendance belge (where she gave literary criticism in 1894-1895)
  • Le Journal des débats politiques et littéraires (Literary Criticism of the History of Civilizations of India, Gustave Le Bon, 1886)
  • Le Gil Blas, "À bord du 'Sénégal' ": story of a cruise in the countries of the Adriatic coast (15/10/1896)

  • La Renaissance politique, littéraire et artistique (1913-1919) where she assured a regular literary criticism; she will also publish articles of circumstance, such as La volonté de vaincre – le doute de soi est bon pour les faibles (1915), on Jan 4th 1919, republished by Le Gaulois. She will also write war reports, such as Visite à l'armée de Champagne (sept. 1915), Parmi les ruines de Noyon à Chauny and Parmi les combattants (dec. 1917). She will also give the reports of the GA of the philanthropic works she presided over (Denier des veuves de la SGDL and l'Aide aux femmes de combattants).
We must also mention the many articles published during the war in several newspapers or magazines, such as Le Gaulois, Je sais tout, Les Annales, La Renaissance politique, littéraire et artistique or La Renaissance de l’art français et des industries du luxe.
